WEDNESDAY
Well, the first day in New York has been a complete success so far! We landed in Laguardia around noon after a quick flight, and then took the subway into the city. We changed trains at Grand Central Station and got to listen to an awesome jazzy band that was surrounded by a huge crowd videotaping them. That was pretty cool. Then we walked through Times Square to our hotel and checked in.We're staying at the Sheraton Times Square, and we have a killer view! We freshened up and unpacked before we headed out for our first New York adventure. Two of the girls in our group are representing KSU's Owl Radio and they went off to Sony Music's New York office for a tour and meeting. They said that the office has such a relaxed vibe and that it was a total blast.

After grabbing a street slice, the rest of the group and I went to go be in the live audience for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. This was such a cool experience. The show took over The Colbert Report's time slot, and its taped in the same studio. I was so thrilled to be in the same room that so many amazing, talented and creative people have been in. Everything about New York is inspiring and I love it!
It was also really cool to see the production team at work while they filmed the show. I love behind the scenes things like that! |
- A girl saw someone drop $5 on a crowded street and she ran to catch them and return it. (New York isn't really known for its friendly people, so it made me happy to see some kindness!)
- Nick DiPaolo from the Comedy Central Roasts was on the sidewalk after the Nightly Show and I shouted a compliment at him. If I had thought more about it, I might of tried to get a photo with him but oh well.
- The city isn't as expensive as we thought it might be. It might actually be cheaper than Atlanta, I don't think I've seen 99 cent pizza slices anywhere else.
After the show, we met back up with our group and found a place to grab dinner. I left a pretty bad Yelp review because it might of been the worst burger I ever paid $20 for, but our group still had a fun time, as usual. After dinner we walked down to see Times Square at night time, and it was gorgeous. All of the lights and huge billboards were just too cool to see. And of course it made for a good photo op. Then we headed back to the hotel for the night, we were all exhausted from traveling all day. Good thing we got to sleep early, because Day 2 was even more eventful.
