A TEXTBOOK YOUNGEST CHILD

I was wasting time on Facebook as I usually do when I came across an article that had the most intriguing title; 12 Habits Every Youngest Child In The Family Carries Into Their 20s by Heidi Priebe. I'm the youngest of 3, and sibling dynamics have always struck my curiosity. From what I've read, I have textbook youngest child syndrome, and I love it.
This is my favorite list-article I've ever read. So many people have mixed feelings about the new type of articles that Buzzfeed has made viral. You know the ones I mean, posts like 27 Valentine's Day Gifts You Should Buy Yourself (which happens to be a real article that I guilty-pleasure read in its entirety). So, with all of these ridiculous web stories floating around, I don't usually find ones that are true perspective shifters. This piece is one exception to that rule.

OLD HABITS DIE HARD

I absolutely love being the baby of the family. I've used it to my advantage plenty of times, and have mastered the 'I don't know what you're talking about' face. But until I read this article I didn't realize how much this dynamic shaped my adult self, the person I became once my older siblings went off to college.
Okay, so if you don't feel like reading the whole list, I don't blame you. I'm just going to pull out the top 3 habits that I felt fit me the most.

The three of us being adorable as ever.
1. They learn best by being mentored. I can definitely relate to this one. I learn by watching and by doing. I pay close attention to detail and will try to watch how someone does something before I'll ask how to do it. The article said "Sit them next to the most successful person in the office and they’ll be miracle workers by next Wednesday." I've always said that one of my strengths is being a quick learner, but I didn't understand why until I read this.
2. They have absolutely no fashion sense. Once again, this is so obvious to me now that I've heard it, but I definitely suffer from having a pretty weak sense of fashion. When I was growing up I had plenty of hand me downs from my sister and cousins. Lately, I've been having some anxiety about being able to put together work outfits every single day and caring about what I wear and how my makeup looks. It's pretty exhausting when you think about it. I'd much rather wear my yoga pants and my brother's old Pink Floyd t-shirt.
3. When it comes to big things, they're unstoppable. Ambition. This is something I know the importance of. Having two older siblings who have always been very smart and successful wasn't easy for me. I definitely realized at a young age that I'd have to work harder to get attention in my family. I think it really helped build my character to what it is today. If I'm doing something, it's going to be done right and I'm not going to stop until it meets my standards.
So, overall, this article has given me plenty to think about. I'm now realizing that I tend to get along better with people who are also the youngest child in their family. I love articles like this that make me think about things from a new perspective. How do your family dynamics affect how you act in the workplace? Chime in below!
