This past weekend I did some exploring at Cataloochee Ski Resort in North Carolina. The occasion for this trip was my boyfriend's 25th birthday. He is even more ambitious than I am when it comes to wanting to try new things, especially sports. I've only gone snowboarding one time before, and I didn't do very well. But I was dying to try again, and Vinnie had never been so I thought it'd be the best way to celebrate his birthday.
We stayed at a cabin that didn't get cell service, so being disconnected from the rest of the world was a nice change up. As my boss says, "creative minds need to break their routine and escape into nature." I definitely felt as if a getaway was just what I needed. We skipped the early morning rush and got to the mountain after lunch. It was so refreshing to being around snow and playing outside. Even if it was almost 60 degrees outside, it still felt like an escape into the best parts of winter. Also, I pretty much just described Narnia. |
We fell down a lot. I also caused a lot of domino effects when we got off the ski lifts. But on a positive note I got to ride with my headphones on so I could get really zoned in on what I was doing (Bassnectar while boarding was the besssst!). I got pretty good at controlling my speed, and I know it was a good workout because I'm more sore than I've ever been.
Overall, I really scratched an itch to do something extreme. Snowboarding is a sport that pushes you to keep going. Even if it hurt like hell, it was still fun enough to do it again and again. I'd say it was a complete success. Check out more photos from my trip below!
