THE FROTHY MONKEY - NASHVILLE, TN

I make it a point to check out new and unique places when I'm visiting a different city, and I knew my trip to Nashville would be no exception. My friend Sarah’s brother Eric recommended I check out this quirky little coffee shop called the Frothy Monkey on my afternoon adventure. The name alone piqued my curiosity, so I decided I’d spend a few hours by myself, soaking in the city and its people. It’s something not everyone understands, but I love going off by myself and seeing what kind of things I might run into. I even parked a little further away on purpose so I could walk a few blocks to find the place. Maybe that’s out of habit from my trip to New York, but I just love the feeling of walking around a city. It’s the only way to get the full experience!
The first thing I noticed about Frothy Monkey was it’s awesome logo typography (the hipster marketing nerd in me totally comes out every time I visit Nashville). It’s similar to some of Led Zeppelin’s artwork, so duh I’m an instant fan. It looked like the perfect place for me to post up, sip some coffee, and get some writing done.

I walked in and the atmosphere was just what I was in the mood for. Dim lighting, upbeat music, the comforting smell of coffee and breakfast food, and the creaky sounds of old floor boards. Of course they had some holiday drinks on the menu, so I went with my current obsession, a Peppermint Mocha. I asked the barista what their signature drink was and he suggested something called a Monkey Mocha. It has a little hint of banana, which really isn’t my thing, but I decided it was worth a try. Especially after I heard they made a White Chocolate Monkey Mocha. Now you’re talking my language.
They have a cozy little loft area upstairs that I settled down in and sipped my coffees. I had a great view of the street, which made for great people watching. If you’re a banana fan, you’d definitely love this mocha. It’s just the right bit of sweetness and aroma mixed with all the things you love about coffee. And the peppermint was totally a solid choice. I’ve been hooked on Starbucks’ version and Frothy Monkey’s gives it a run for its money. I might have to move up here just for the coffee. And the people. Nashville has some of the nicest people, and I had some great conversations. I’m truly a people person at heart and I love getting a glimpse into someone else’s life. People always tend to make me look at things from a different perspective, even something as minimal as a stone wall.

It was definitely a great way to spend a couple hours on a rainy Saturday afternoon. And, I’ll admit, I love being that picturesque writer sitting on her laptop at a unique little coffee house. Whatever makes you happy, right? Indulge in the little things that make you happy whenever you get the chance. I'm a big believer in making your own happiness. I’ve got a lot more of Nashville coming before I leave tomorrow. Check back to hear all about it!
